Guardians from Truecaller is a new personal safety app: features, how to download

Popular caller ID and telephone search engine app, Truecaller has launched a new personal safety application — Guardians. The app was developed over the last 15 months by a dedicated team from Stockholm and India. The Guardians app allows users to set their own personal “Guardians” from their contact list and choose when to stop/start sharing location or setup permanent sharing with selected Guardians during a trip. The app even allows sharing location for a particular trip. The app works quietly in the background, Truecaller said in a statement. The app is aimed at offering users a safe trip and for the guardians to be aware of the whereabouts.

Guardians app features

If there’s anything usual or in an emergency situation, users can simply tap the emergency button to notify all their guardians about the location and situation. The emergency mode will allow Guardians to precisely follow your location, reach your location or be able to send help. A notification will be sent to community Guardians who may be in the vicinity as well. However, Truecaller said that accepting help from the community will be a personal choice. In the normal mode, the app will quietly run in the background and share location intermittently while preserving battery life. Soon the app will gain the ability to get help from local law enforcement.

Guardians App

Guardians app requires three permissions: location, contacts to select and invite your personal Guardians, and phone permission to show your phone status to your Guardians.

Guardians: how to register and download the app

The signup process for Guardians is simple. If you’re a Truecaller user, you can sign in with one tap but if you’re not, you can verify your phone number using a missed call or OTP. The company says that Guardians will never share any personal information with any third-party apps for commercial use, including Truecaller. The Guardians app is free to download from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Moreover, all the features are free to use and there are no ads or premium tiers, the company promises.
