Popular benchmarking website AnTutu has banned the recently-launched Realme GT from its platform for a span of three months. The smartphone was found to be using unscrupulous methods to achieve its highly-advertised score of 770,221. Furthermore, the smartphone has also been scrubbed from the AnTuTu database. AnTuTu posted a detailed breakdown of everything wrong with the Realme GT performance via a Weibo post on a retail version of the smartphone with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. AnTuTu has advised Realme to fix the issue, otherwise it runs the risk of the Realme GT being banned off the platform indefinitely.
So, just how did the Realme GT managed to trick AnTuTu into thinking the phone is faster than it actually is? According to AnTuTu, the phone in multithreaded test offloaded its workload to its fastest cores, instead of evenly distributing it across both power and efficiency cores. Some of the tasks earmarked for the little cores were deliberately held back so that they could be run on the big cores. As a result, the device’s multi-core score was calculated to be higher than what would be under real-world circumstances.
Realme GT also manipulated AnTuTu’s JPG image decompression test. Instead of processing the image as is, it replaced the same with a bunch of mosaic blocks, which resulted in a blurry unusable image. To help better understand the situation, the image on the left is what the Realme GT processed when it was supposed to look like the image on the right. While this might seem nonsensical from a real-world perspective, this was enough to trick AnTuTu into thinking that the Realme GT could decode a JPG image faster than it actually could.
Realme in a statement to the media said:

BENCHMARK SCORES OF REALME GT ARE ALL ACCURATE DATA UNDER THE CURRENT VERSIONS OF THE ANTUTU BENCHMARK. REALME HAS ALWAYS BEEN COMMITTED TO BRINGING USERS EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE, THE ACTUAL USER EXPERIENCE IS THE TOP PRIORITY FOR REALME. ON THE OTHER HAND, REGARDING THE TEST ISSUES DOUBTED BY BOTH SIDES, WE ARE IN TOUCH WITH ANTUTU TO SORT IT OUT POSITIVELY.
